Morristown High School – Morristown’s Hayden Langkabel led all scorers with 24 points as the Yellow Jackets beat Eastern Hancock 72-59. Langkabel’s points came on 9 field goals and 6 of 9 free throws during the game. Logan Laster scored 18 points on 7 of 8 from the stripe, 4 field goals, and 1 three pointer. Eastern Hancock was led by Addison True’s 20 points and A. J. Muegge added 16. Tonight was Senior Night in the Hive and our Yellow Jacket faithful filled up the stands to recognize our great senior leaders in Varsity boy’s basketball, cheerleading, FAA, and Band. The Varsity boy’s team recognized Seniors Chance Collingwood, Danny Brenneman, Hayden Langkabel, Eli Streeval and their parents prior to tipoff of the Varsity competition. The Royals struck first on a basket by True to open the game. Streeval answered with a signature three from downtown causing the crowd to explode in emotion and the Jackets had started what would become an 11-2 run. This lead ballooned to 33-12 with 2.5 minutes left in the half as the Jackets were able to push the pace and distribute the ball to the open player. The Royal’s 7-0 run in the last 2 minutes closed the gap at half. And they carried this momentum into the second half, eventually drawing within 5 with some good outside shooting. The Yellow Jackets pulled away in the last 4 minutes of the game on some great drives, basketball savviness, and making free throws. We are so proud of players and especially our Seniors tonight as they once again demonstrate that unselfish, team-first basketball results in much success. Eastern Hancock fell to 14-5 overall while Morristown improved their record to 20-1. Morristown will host Shelbyville on Saturday Feb. 17 at 7:30pm.
